When labeling of tri-panel plastic clamshells was required for premium egg carton production, Graphic Packaging was selected to design and manufacture a custom plastic clamshell labeling system. A reciprocating vacuum placer denests tri-panel plastic clamshells for eggs into a dual lane flighted servo indexing conveyor at 30 cycles / 60 placements per minute. The clamshells are transported under a hot melt glue system where glue is applied to each clamshell lid before traveling under a second reciprocating placer where labels are placed into the clamshell lids. The conveyor transports the labeled clamshells to the product upstacker, which stacks, counts, and crosspushes trays onto a shelf for easy removal. This compact, stand-alone machine efficiently labels and stacks clamshells and includes an adjustable stack counter. It could also be used for pressure sensitive label applications as well.
